Trump Will Overturn Biden Policy Allowing Abortions at VA Clinics

Today, the Trump administration published a proposed rule to rescind the Biden-era Veterans Affairs policy that pushed illegal abortions at VA hospitals and clinics.

Federal law  authorizes the VA to provide certain health services to women veterans but explicitly excludes abortion. Federal regulation previously complied with the law and prohibited VA from killing babies in abortions and abortion counseling in its medical benefits package.

But the Biden administration reversed this, turning VA clinics and hospitals into abortion centers. His policy resulted in killing dozens of babies.

The policy was so extreme that videos obtained from the Department of Veterans Affairs showed staff being trained to push statutorily prohibited abortion as the safest “option” for veterans.

Today, President trump took steps to overturn the pro-abortion policy.

SBA Pro-Life America President Majorie Dannenfelser celebrated the news, telling LifeNews.com: “We thank President Trump and VA Secretary Collins for restoring the rule of law and ending the Biden Administration’s illegal policy that forced taxpayers to fund abortions through VA hospitals and violated state pro-life laws.”

“Instead of prioritizing the real and urgent needs of our veterans, the Biden-Harris Administration turned VA hospitals into abortion centers – violating longstanding law and betraying the will of the American people who strongly oppose forced taxpayer-funded abortions. Veterans deserve compassionate care and healing and should not be subjected to the violence of abortion. The American people should never have been made to bankroll it. Thankfully this injustice is now corrected.”

Biden’s rule violated longstanding federal law. It required the VA to fund abortions in cases that include a broad health exception, allows abortion counseling, and authorizes payment for elective abortion using taxpayer dollars.

Since 1992, the Department of Veterans Affairs has been statutorily prohibited from using taxpayer dollars for abortion. In September, however, the Biden administration ignored the longstanding prohibition and issued a new rule that requires taxpayers to fund abortions for undefined and presumably broad “health” reasons.

The Biden rule also required VA hospitals to abort unborn babies “regardless of state restrictions.” In response, attorneys general in 18 states recently sued the Biden administration for violating their laws protecting unborn babies.

Biden’s radical abortion policy earned him the scorn of the nation’s Catholic bishops.

Catholic Archbishop Timothy Broglio urged Catholics to stand firm in opposition to two new Biden administration actions that force taxpayers to fund the killing of unborn babies in abortions through the military.

In an April 28 letter, Broglio said he felt “deeply saddened” by a U.S. Senate vote in April that allowed a new rule forcing the Department of Veterans Affairs to provide abortions at its hospitals to go into effect, according to the Catholic News Agency.

Broglio, who leads the Archdiocese of Military Services in the U.S., also condemned a “morally repugnant” new Department of Defense policy that forces taxpayers to pay for military members and their families to travel and receive paid time off for elective abortions.

“The policy and rule, now in effect, are morally repugnant and incongruent with the Gospel which the faithful are commissioned to share throughout the world,” the archbishop wrote. “Moreover, the new DOD policy and VA rule fail to incorporate basic conscience protections, thus creating First Amendment pitfalls for military commanders and VA employees.”
