President Donald Trump has nominated pro-life Dr. Dave Weldon to be CDC director. Trump could not have made a more solid pro-life selection for someone to head the CDC as far as the pro-life perspective is concerned.
Not only will Dr. Weldon strongly advocate for the conscience rights of pro-life medical professionals to not participate in abortions, he will make it abundantly clear as CDC Director that abortion bans do not prohibit legitimate medical care for women.
In making the nomination, the president-elect said, “I am thrilled to announce that former Congressman, Dr. Dave Weldon, is nominated to serve as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In addition to being a Medical Doctor for 40 years, and an Army Veteran, Dave has been a respected conservative leader on fiscal and social issues, and served on the Labor/HHS Appropriations Subcommittee, working for Accountability on HHS and CDC Policy and Budgeting.”
“Dave also served in a leading role in Government Oversight and Reform Committee Hearings, addressing issues within HHS and CDC. Dave has successfully worked with the CDC to enact a ban on patents for human embryos,” Trump continued.
“Americans have lost trust in the CDC and in our Federal Health Authorities, who have engaged in censorship, data manipulation, and misinformation. Given the current Chronic Health Crisis in our Country, the CDC must step up and correct past errors to focus on the Prevention of Disease,” Trump said in a statement to LifeNews.com.

He concluded: “The current Health of Americans is critical, and CDC will play a big role in helping to ensure Americans have the tools and resources they need to understand the underlying causes of disease, and the solutions to cure these diseases. As a father of two and a husband of 45 years, Dave understands American Family Values, and views Health as one of utmost importance. Dave will prioritize Transparency, Competence, and High Standards at CDC. Dave will proudly restore the CDC to its true purpose, and will work to end the Chronic Disease Epidemic, and Make America Healthy Again!”
As a member of Congress, Dr. Weldon authored the pro-life laws that protected doctors and nurses from being forced to do abortions.
Dr. Dave Weldon served in Congress from 1995-2008. In his seven terms, he maintained a sterling pro-life record. Not only did Dr. Weldon maintain a 100% pro-life voting record, he led key pro-life efforts to pass legislation – including a bill that become federal law protecting the conscience rights of pro-life medical professionals.
In voting for the historic ban on partial-birth abortion, Weldon said of abortion, “This is not a religious issue, it is a human issue. The distance between life and death for these babies is a mere three inches. Since Roe v. Wade we have seen 35 million abortions in this nation. The value of human life has been debased in our civilization to the point where animals have protective rights were humans do not. We are knee-deep in a culture of death.”
Weldon has also said about politics: “I have no desire to be a ‘career politician.’ I’ll work to change Washington, not be changed by Washington. I want to commit my experience and talent to solving the problems in Washington by bringing an unflinching conservative approach.”
During his time in Congress, Weldon had not only spoken out against experimentation on human embryos but also has advocated for ethical adult stem cell research.
