Defunding Begins: Planned Parenthood Abortion Centers Tell Customers They Can't Accept Medicaid

Planned Parenthood abortion businesses are starting to inform customers they can’t accept Medicaid payments thanks to the new federal law that defunds the abortion giant.

Although a federal judge temporarily blocked the law from taking effect, two Planned Parenthood affiliates are already implementing it by informing customers they will need to pay out of pocket.

Planned Parenthood affiliates, including those in Washington, D.C., and Colorado, have stopped accepting Medicaid. The legislation, which includes a provision to block Medicaid funding to Planned Parenthood for one year, marks a significant victory for pro-life advocates who have long sought to redirect federal funds away from the nation’s largest abortion company.

The Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, D.C. (PPMW) announced on its website, “With the passage of the reconciliation bill into law on July 4, 2025, Planned Parenthood health centers, including Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC (PPMW) centers, can no longer accept Medicaid coverage for care.”

Similarly, Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains (PPRM) notified customers that it could no longer accept Medicaid, impacting approximately 16,000 patients, or a third of its clientele, according to Adrienne Mansanares, PPRM’s President and CEO.

Pro-life groups celebrated the move as a step toward reducing taxpayer support for abortion businesses.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, stated, “It is time to stop forcing taxpayers to fund the Big Abortion industry, led by Planned Parenthood. Women have real choices for their health care, with community health centers far more accessible and offering much more comprehensive care than abortion businesses.”

A federal judge issued a temporary 14-day restraining order on July 7, allowing some Planned Parenthood affiliates, such as those in Florida, to resume scheduling Medicaid patients. However, PPMW and PPRM have proceeded with halting Medicaid services, citing the immediate impact of the funding cut. PPMW is offering a 40% discount to self-pay patients through August to mitigate the impact.

Planned Parenthood has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, arguing the provision violates constitutional protections. The outcome of the legal challenge remains uncertain, but for now, the funding ban threatens to close roughly 200 Planned Parenthood abortion centers, particularly in states with high Medicaid enrollment and abortions up to birth like California and Illinois.
