To hear it from abortion activists, pro-life Americans don’t care about women and children – especially after banning abortions. But in the state of Texas that notion is totally false.
Yesterday, Texas lawmakers gave preliminary approval to $210 million in support for pregnant moms.
“Texas lawmakers approved full funding tonight for adoption agencies, pregnancy centers, and maternity homes,” Texas Right to Life informed LifeNews in an email. “This is a huge blessing, but please keep praying — the final vote won’t take place until May.”

“By increasing Pro-Life funding, we can support women and their babies with compassion and care instead of letting the abortion industry target them,” it added.
The pro-life group was worried about a possible cut in funding, but pro-life advocates helped secure a pro-life victory for moms and babies.
“The Texas House voted to fully fund life-saving nonprofits at $210 million in the Thriving Texas Families program,” Texas Right to Life explained. “These providers help mothers choose Life by offering baby materials (like diapers and formula), counseling, job skills training, and more. This victory isn’t about dollars. It’s about the children and families rescued from abortion.”
Representative Tom Oliverson, M.D., who introduced the amendment to fund this program, talked about it.
“This program promotes healthy pregnancy and childbirth. It supports moms who choose to have their baby. It increases access to resources that promote family and child development. It encourages families to stay together and support each other. It teaches parents to implement successful parenting techniques. It teaches families to take care of themselves financially. And it provides personalized support to pregnant women so that mom feels ready to have her baby. The additional dollars that we are appropriating today will help further the mission of this very successful program, providing women with the support they need to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.”
Representative Caroline Harris Davila added Dr. Oliverson’s amendment to fully fund these resources for mothers and babies.
“On top of this victory, we stopped policies that would have allowed your tax dollars to go to abortion groups or decreased funding for pregnancy centers,” TRTL added. “However, Democrats blocked an important Pro-Life amendment that would have stopped bureaucrats from misusing Pro-Life funds (as a government agency did in February). We will have to fight to fix this through another bill before June.”
More and more women are seeking help to continue their pregnancies instead of seeking abortion, as Texas strengthens its pro-life laws. The group expect a 33% increase in the number of mothers visiting Thriving Texas Families providers over the next two years.
Texas Right to Life is not finished as it is still fighting to stop illegal abortion pills in the state.
“Still, an estimated 30,000 Texan babies will be aborted this year by illegal pills and out-of-state procedures… unless we do something to save them,” it said. “Lawmakers must pass the Woman and Child Protection Act and the Stop Tax-Funded Abortion Travel Act.”
