Do you know what abortion is?

Opinion from Lila Rose, President and Founder of Live Action
Do you know what abortion is?

I want to make sure you know the truth about what abortion IS and what it IS NOT and equip you with key talking points for your discussions about this injustice with your friends and family.

First of all, it is critical to know the all-encompassing definition of abortion:

ABORTION is the intentional killing of an innocent preborn child.

The key word here is “intentional.”

Here is what abortion is NOT:

  • Cancer treatment on pregnant women
  • The procedure of removing part of the fallopian tube containing an embryo since that child cannot grow there and will not survive (ectopic pregnancy)
  • The D&C procedure or labor-inducing pill sometimes needed when the child has naturally died in the womb (miscarriage) and the mother needs medical help to remove the already deceased child from her womb.
  • Emergency preterm delivery

In addition, there are other medical treatments women may have to undergo for their health while pregnant, but none of those treatments require the mother to kill her child intentionally.

In all of these cases, true healthcare is needed.

In all of these cases, abortion (intentionally killing the child) is NOT needed.

Intentionally killing an innocent human is never healthcare.

In fact, a group of medical professionals came together at a symposium in Ireland and put together a document called the Dublin Declaration, which declares that abortion is never medically necessary. Over 1,000 medical professionals have signed the document!

The declaration states:

“As experienced practitioners and researchers in obstetrics and gynecology, we affirm that direct abortion – the purposeful destruction of the unborn child – is not medically necessary to save the life of a woman.

We uphold that there is a fundamental difference between abortion, and necessary medical treatments that are carried out to save the life of the mother, even if such treatment results in the loss of life of her unborn child.

We confirm that the prohibition of abortion does not affect, in any way, the availability of optimal care to pregnant women.”

True healthcare treats both patients with dignity and respect - the mother and the preborn child.

BC, now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, what does a country without Roe really mean?

It means the intentional killing of a child in the womb can be prohibited by state laws. Nothing else. No other medical procedure is affected.

From 1973 to 2022, Roe has prevented states from enacting life-saving laws, so having it gone now is a big step in the right direction, but we’re actually still in a compromise with the abortion industry.

The intentional killing is only prohibited in the states who choose to put in place life-saving laws now. Our real goal is to have abortion outlawed and unthinkable everywhere, which has still not happened.

Think about this: Abortion facilities exist to kill babies in healthy pregnancies. They might say they exist to help women, but if you call any abortion facility and ask for medical assistance when having true complications, they will turn you away. Likewise, if you reach out needing material support to care for your child, they will turn you away.

The abortion mindset says the solution to every problem is to kill.

The pro-life mindset says suffering never outweighs the inherent value of life.

Most abortionists were trained to heal as physicians. Instead, they kill children for money.

Abortion is not healthcare and abortionists are not healers.

In light of these facts, it is helpful that the Supreme Court finally overturned Roe and declared that it never should have been passed in the first place.

Roe allowed grave injustice to happen for over 49 years. The “right to abortion” is a fictitious phrase.

Abortion is not Constitutional because nowhere in the Constitution does it say anyone should have the right to kill another living, innocent human being.

It IS Constitutional, however, that every person has a right to life. And that right to life - beginning at conception - is still not recognized nationally. That’s why you and I must keep fighting.

BC, I hope this email helps you feel more equipped to defend why the intentional killing of children truly should be not just illegal but unthinkable.

Thank you for all you are doing to build a culture of life in this critical moment in the history of the pro-life movement!
