A new bill introduced in Congress aims to prevent abortionists from flushing aborted baby parts in public water systems, a practice pro-life advocates call a “depraved disregard for the sanctity of life.”
The Respectful Treatment of Unborn Remains Act, introduced Wednesday by Rep. Brandon Gill, R-Texas, and Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., seeks to ensure that aborted babies are treated with dignity and not flushed into sewers like medical waste.
The legislation comes in response to growing concerns about the environmental and ethical implications of chemical abortions, which account for roughly two-thirds of all abortions in the U.S. According to a recent report by Liberty Counsel Action, an estimated 30-40 tons of fetal remains and abortion pill byproducts are flushed into public water systems annually.
The report highlights that wastewater treatment facilities are not designed to process such remains, raising questions about contamination and oversight.
The bill would require abortion companies to dispose of fetal remains in accordance with federal and state medical waste regulations, prohibiting the use of public water systems for disposal. Violators could face penalties, though specific enforcement mechanisms were not detailed in the initial proposal.

“Every life is precious and has value, from the moment of conception until natural death,” Gill told The Daily Wire. “Not only does abortion rob an unborn baby of their life, but abortionists further rob them of a dignified burial by carelessly discarding their fetal remains into public water systems — a disgusting and abhorrent practice.”
“This careless discard of human body parts signifies the depraved disregard for the sanctity of life at abortion clinics,” he added. “Beyond the moral outrage, introducing fetal remains into public water systems also poses a serious public health concern, potentially contaminating water sources.”
During testimonies from abortionist Kermit Gosnell’s murder trials, investigators revealed that the abortionist would shove baby remains down his garbage disposal and his toilets, clogging both to the point where pipes would burst, and, in one case, a baby’s arm allegedly “popped out” on the street as maintenance workers plunged the system.
Employees at the clinic said during the trials that the abortion clinic toilet had to be removed from the floor to “get the fetuses out of the pipes,” The Daily Mail reported.
“They were shoving body parts down the garbage disposal,” said Philadelphia Police crime scene investigator John Taggart, according to The Daily Mail. “To the point where they plunged it one day and an arm popped out on Lancaster Avenue.”
Meanwhile, dozens of members of Congress have warned that the most common method of abortion in America may not just kill unborn babies and harm their mothers, it may also pollute America’s drinking water with forever chemicals that could impact declining fertility levels.
Some 25 congressional Republicans signed a letter calling on the Trump administration to determine whether the abortion pill mifepristone has an environmental impact on the U.S. water system. “[M]ifepristone is a potent progesterone blocker that disrupts hormonal balance in pregnant women to induce abortion. This raises questions about the drug’s potential endocrine-disrupting effects when present in drinking water supplies,” said the letter, led by Senator James Lankford and Rep. Josh Brecheen (both R-Okla.). “If residual amounts of the drug and its metabolites persist in wastewater, prolonged exposure could potentially interfere with a person’s fertility, regardless of sex.”
“As gross as it sounds, much of our sewage water ends up being filtered” through waste water treatment plants and becomes “drinking water downstream. But that process doesn’t take out everything,” Lankford told “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” Tuesday. “PFAS [per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances] … medications, or other chemicals are often still in the system.”
